Job Description

Schedules, assigns daily duties, and assesses the general performance of the Physician's Assistants in the department. Performs the duties of a Physician's Assistant.

Responsibilities Include:

  1.  Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of staff. Ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner. Interviews Physician's Assistant candidates and trains new employees.
  2.  Plans on-call and daily work schedule for the department, ensures 24/7 coverage.
  3.  Oversees the education and training of Physician Assistants rotating in from hospitals outside the Health System. Formally evaluates students at the end of the rotation.
  4.  Keeps abreast of current trends, quality issues and departmental affairs. Provides lectures, discussions and in-service education programs to Physician Assistants, students, residents, nurses, and ancillary personnel.
  5.  Oversees the quality assurance initiatives for the department.
  6.  Performs the duties of a Physician's Assistant, including the handling of the more complex, technical cases, as needed.
  7.  Provides back-up for other medical personnel.
  8.  Performs related duties, as required.

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's Degree, required.
  •  Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs (ARC-PA) program, required.
  •  Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education, required.
  •  Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.
  •  Current BLS and ACLS certification, required.
  •  Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible related work experience to ensure technical proficiency, required.
