Position Description
Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA), to join our dedicated cardiac critical care team in Fairfax, VA. The PCICU APP will play a key role in providing high-acuity, family-centered care to infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital and acquired heart disease.

Pediatric Advance Practice Provider, PCICU Job Responsibilities:
- The PCICU is a 12-bed, dedicated Unit staffed by pediatric cardiac intensivists, specially trained nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacist, nutritionist, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, case managers and social workers.
- The APP will evaluate, diagnose, and treat cardiac medical patients as well as pre- and post-operative/catheterization cardiac patients, under the direction of the pediatric cardiac intensivist.
- Central to the role, the APP will assist in developing and implementing plans of care for all patients in the PCICU and participate in protocol/guideline development.
- The APP functions in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary cardiac team, while also providing consultation and education to patients and their families.
Minimum Requirements:
- Work schedule: Full Time (12-hour shifts - including days, nights, weekends and holidays)
- Education: For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).
- Certification: Acute Care Certification by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. BLS/ACLS and PALS certification
Preferred Requirements:
- Education: Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (AC PNP) preferred or Physician Assistant
- Experience: Pediatric acute care cardiac experience preferred
