Welcome to 2016!

Happy New Year to all our NPADC members and followers! NPADC hopes it will be a wonderful year for everyone.

As it is the new year, we want to remind our members of the excellent resources available that make your life easier. We have all received the reminder postcard in the mail to renew our RN/APRN by June 30, 2016. Recall that as APRNs we need to complete 24 contact hours of which 15 hours need to include pharmacological content. As a member of NPADC, our meetings include CEU credit, minimum of 1 hour.

Our next meeting, February 11, 2016 will feature Dr. Kim Acquaviva, professor at GWU, who will present "LGBT Health, from Adolescence to Elderly." This meeting has received AANP approval for 1.5 CEU, so please stay tuned for venue and registration. If your NPADC membership has expired or is close to expiring, please take a few minutes to renew and keep your status active.

Another source of CE's is AANP. As a member of AANP you have access to over 40 CE hours, many which have pharm hours. As an active NPADC member, you will receive $10 off your AANP annual membership. Your membership of AANP also contributes to the advocacy and legislative activities at the national and state level for all NPs. You will receive the Government Affairs e-news summary, Smartbrief - which delivers essential healthcare news, the JAANP (Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners) and JNP (Journal of Nurse Practitioners). As you can see, your membership is well worth the investment. Beginning this year, I have been appointed the DC State Representative at AANP. I hope to work closely with Laura Worby to represent your issues and concerns.

If you are worried about meeting the Pharm requirements, AANP also has a solution for this. As an active AANP member, you will receive a discount to Prescribers Letter. This newsletter is an excellent source of pharmacopeia and also has a monthly quiz which is worth 1 CE hour of pharmacology. The quiz can be taken online and credit is received immediately.
