In the context of potential sweeping changes to health insurance in the United States, the DC City Council is considering a legislative proposal that may be of interest to NPs practicing in DC.

The Defending Access to Women's Health Care Services Amendment Act of 2017 (B22-0106) would require insurers in DC to cover certain women's health services without cost-sharing  (similar to what is currently required by the Affordable Care Act) such as contraception, breast cancer screening, STI and HIV screening, certain prenatal screenings and others.  A hearing is scheduled for Monday, March 20, with a plan to get it in place before the new administration and congress repeal/replace the ACA.

A copy of the bill and the hearing notice are attached.  While NPADC is not taking an official position, we are making the information available to anyone who may want to testify or submit comments.
