The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Signature Authority Amendment Act of 2017 was introduced on June 20th by DC Councilmembers Brianne Nadeau (Ward 1) and Mary Cheh (Ward 3). This legislation would allow APRNs to "sign, certify, stamp, or endorse all documents that require the signature of a physician, provided it is within their scope of authorized practice." It is currently under review by the Committee on Health, whose members include the Committee Chair Vincent Gray (Ward 7), Brandon Todd (Ward 4), and David Grosso (At-Large) in addition to Councilmembers Nadeau and Cheh. The full text of the legislation is attached, along with an issue brief from AANP.

This proposed legislation will help remove obstacles to APRN practice in DC. Please take the opportunity to let your Councilmembers know how this legislation will help you care for your patients more efficiently and effectively.
