Signature Authority Update:

Thank you to all who testified September 18th on the Advance Practice Registered Nurse Signature Authority Amendment Act of 2017 (DC B22-0333). Your testimony has helped move the bill forward.

On October 12, The Council of the District of Columbia Committee on Health reported the bill favorably from committee and recommended approval by the Council. Read the full committee report, including testimony. If enacted, this bill would amend the D.C. Nurse Practice Act (§ 3-1206.04, Authorized acts, Pg.38-39) to authorize APRNs to sign, certify, stamp or endorse all documents that require a physician signature. NPADC will continue to monitor this legislation. Stay tuned!

AANP State Awards:

We also would like to announce the winners of the prestigious AANP Awards for Excellence for DC. There was stiff competition and all who have been nominated are deserving of these awards. For the Award in Clinical Excellence, Ms. Courtney Pladsen is the recipient. In the nomination, “Ms. Pladsen is recognized for her work in implementing social determinants of health in homeless populations in the District.”

For the NP Advocate Award, Ms. Lauren Inouye has been selected. In her nomination Ms. Inouye was recognized for “Fighting daily to secure funding for nursing education and for inclusion of provider neutral language in all legislation that affects healthcare delivery systems.”

We celebrate and congratulate Ms. Pladsen and Inouye for their accomplishments. We are very proud of you!

Both recipients will be recognized at our next NPADC meeting on Thursday, November 9th, 2017.
