The DC City Council Committees on Judiciary and Public Safety and on Health are holding a joint public hearing on Thursday December 14th at 12pm to consider two bills: B22-0458 - The Opioid Overdose Prevention Act of 2017, and B22-0459 - The Opioid Abuse Treatment Act of 2017. Please see the attached hearing notice and text of both bills. The first bill would require Metropolitan Police to carry life-saving opioid antagonist kits and to receive training. The second bill includes multiple measures to increase access to medication assisted treatment for opioid abuse, including identifying providers of MAT, continuing MAT during incarceration, requiring reimbursement, requiring training for high opioid prescribers, overdose fatality review process, and hospitalization discharge protocols. The deadline to sign up to testify or submit written testimony is close of business Friday December 8th. You can also send emails to the committee members.
