Legislative Update from Cathy Hampton, AANP DC State Representative:

Last week a total of six Nurse Practitioners attended the annual AANP Health Policy Conference here in DC.

Key topics included: the Opioid Epidemic, CMS Update, and a fireside chat with the new Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams.  The full agenda can be found on the AANP website:  https://www.aanp.org/images/documents/conference/2018_aanp_health_policy_conference_agenda.pdf

The highlight was visiting Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton office on the Hill.  The visit was very successful as she has now signed onto the three Federal Bills which represent key priorities for our profession nationally.  These bills can be found on the AANP website:  https://www.aanp.org/legislation-regulation/advocacy-center

I encourage all NPs, family and friends to go to this site and click on the "Take Action" to support these bills.  You do not need to be an AANP member to demonstate advocacy. The Bills are: H.R. 1617- Improve Medicare access to Diabetic Shoes; H.R. 1825 - Improve Medicare Access to Home Health; H.R. 1160 - Improve access to Medicare shared savings ACOs.
