AANP Region 3 Meeting, September 26, 2020 via Zoom

In attendance were approximately 55 attendees from Region 3 which includes: District of
Columbia, WV, MD, VA, PA and DE. In attendance from DC were: Drs. Nancy Russell, Andrea
Brassard, Sandra Davis, Linda Briggs, Christine Pintz, and Colleen Leners.  AANP State
Representative Cathy Hampton was also in attendance.


AANP President-Elect, April Kapu recapped the past AANP year. Included were the AANP
stats of 290,000 NPs licensed to practice in the US. Approximately 114,000 of these are AANP
members. AANP Board Elections will be held March 11-31, 2020 and included is the position
for Region 3 Director.  Dr. Lori Martin-Plank is our current Region 3 Director.

NP ability to sign for Medicare Home Health is now permanent under the Cares Act (H.R. 748).


- Health Policy Conference will be held in DC February 28- March 2nd 2021.
- Dr. Janet Selway, AANP PAC Vice Chair/Treasurer, reiterated the importance of
contributing to the PAC fund and encouraged everyone to make a donation.

Recent events in DC included:

• Implementation of Global Signature
• Supported the DC Telehealth Amendment Act
• Created COVID-19 link on NPO website
• Commented on Opiate Management Guidelines
(developed by the Drug Utilization Review Board under
DC Health Finance)
• Provided comments on the Collaborative Practice Agreements between NPs and
Pharmacists, per BON
• Marched in White Coats for Black Life Matters
Ongoing & Planned Future Action
• Recruitment, Preceptor Tax Incentive


AANP membership is just over 25% of total NPs in the District


We were fortunate to have an excellent 2.5 hr presentation from Carolyn Buppert, MSN, JD .
She covered 4 topics, all of high interest to the NP population. Topics included: 1/ Legal issues
affecting NPs, including malpractice, or preventative law, 2/ Negotiating a contract, 3/ Issues
regarding Precepting, 4/ Starting your own practice and 5/ Serving as an expert witness. She
