Happy Nurse Practitioner Week and Happy International Year of the Nurse and Midwife
What better way to kick off NP Week than to recognize and salute our DC recipients of the prestigious AANP Excellence Awards 2021.
Our very own Ms. Laura Worby, FNP-BC is the recipient of the DC AANP Advocate Award for Excellence. Many of us are aware of Ms. Worby’s dedication to parity and full scope of practice for NPs in the District. She was instrumental in passing Global Signature Authority, which allows NPs to sign, certify, stamp and endorse documents within our scope of practice. She has provided testimony to the DC Council on numerous topics and actively follows legislation in the District. Most recently, she rallied NPs to support the Telehealth Reimbursement Act of 2020, this included reimbursement in the budget for audio only encounters in the District through September 2021. We are so fortunate to have Laura advocating for us in DC. Please make sure you offer your Congratulations.
The recipient for the DC AANP Nurse Practitioner Award for Excellence goes to Ms. Carolyn Summer, NP, MPH. Ms. Summer is an FNP at Unity Healthcare and has worked on the frontlines of the pandemic. She initially helped to streamline processes to ensure the ‘COVID Hotels’ were providing the best possible care for homeless residents who were in need of isolation or quarantine. She now floats between the Isolation and Quarantine Hotel (ISAQ) and the Pandemic Emergency Program for Medically Vulnerable Individuals hotel (PEP-V). NPADC is very proud to honor Ms. Summer with this prestigious award and thank her for her dedication, and working on the frontline of the pandemic to help highly vulnerable populations in the District.
Both of our recipients will be honored at the AANP National Conference in Anaheim CA, June 15th -20th.
We were also very happy to have received our signed Proclamation for the District for Nurse Practitioner Week from Mayor Bowsers office. There has been an updated Proclamation that recognizes 2,152 NPs in the District. Please see attachment.
We invite ALL Nurse Practitioners and Students to our Zoom meeting Thursday, November 12th at 6pm. It will be an excellent meeting with 3 great speakers discussing: Recognition of COVID-19 diagnosis and need for inpatient admission
We also would like to take the opportunity and honor our veterans, both active, reserve or retired for everything they have done for our country. November 11th comes but once a year, however what you do or have done for our country lives on forever.
